CLEVELAND, Ohio (May 15, 2025) — At its May 15 meeting, the 91̽»¨ (91̽»¨) Board of Trustees unanimously recognized President Laura Bloomberg’s strong leadership and contributions to the University, including her stewardship through a period of transformation and financial discipline.

As part of its ongoing efforts to streamline operations and improve fiscal efficiency, the Board also voted to terminate the University’s lease for the president’s residence, located at 2568 Fairmount Boulevard in Cleveland Heights. The property, owned by the Euclid Avenue Development Corporation (EADC) — a nonprofit affiliate of 91̽»¨ — has served as the official residence of the University president since 2016.

The decision, made in consultation with President Bloomberg, reflects a shared commitment to financial responsibility and institutional sustainability. Instead of maintaining the leased residence, the Board will provide President Bloomberg with a housing allowance. The details of that allowance will be negotiated and finalized in coordination with the Board. The shift is expected to save the University over $145,000 annually.

President Bloomberg and her husband, Jon Bloomberg, have chosen to purchase a personal residence in the Cleveland area. They look forward to hosting University events at their new home in the near future.

The Board’s actions align with 91̽»¨â€™s broader strategy to address budget challenges while preserving academic quality and student support. The University continues to pursue reforms and efficiencies across all areas, including academic programming, athletics, staffing and real estate.

Also at the meeting, the Board voted to provide President Bloomberg with a performance bonus and a merit-based salary increase following her annual review. It is her first salary increase since assuming the presidency in 2022. In 2024, President Bloomberg declined a previously approved performance bonus and voluntarily reduced her salary by 10%.

The Board commended President Bloomberg for her pivotal role in developing 91̽»¨â€™s new strategic plan — Cleveland State United — and for her ongoing efforts to strengthen the University’s financial and organizational foundation.
